Understanding Health Conditions

Congenital Scoliosis

About This Condition

Congenital scoliosis occurs due to congenitally (present at birth) abnormal vertebrae. The condition affects newborns and young infants as curvature of the spine commenced before birth while in the mother's womb. This type of scoliosis can range in severity from mild to life threatening and is often associated with problems in other body systems and organs. Of the main types of scoliosis, the congenital form of the condition is the least common.
