Everything You Need To Know

Surgery Preparation

The thought of having to undergo a diagnostic procedure or surgery to treat your condition can be somewhat daunting. We hope the following information will help allay any concerns you may have.

Going to Hospital

The Briz Brain & Spine team understands all aspects of the admissions process and will coordinate and arrange all of your admission details. Once your admission has been arranged, you will be notified of the details in writing. Just prior to your admission to hospital, you will be contacted verbally to confirm all details of your upcoming procedure or surgery.

Additional Preparation

What You Can Eat

In most cases, you will be required to fast (NIL BY MOUTH - including water) for 6 hours prior to surgery.

Medication

If you are on aspirin or any other blood thinning medications, you will need to cease this medication 7-14 days prior to your admission. Anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen, fish oil or krill oil will also need to be ceased 5-7 days prior to surgery.

Please speak with your specialist's clinical administration assistant to confirm medication details as soon as possible before your hospital admission.

Don't Forget!

Please bring all previous and current x-rays and scans as well as your surgery consent form with you to the hospital.

Should you have any concerns or require additional assistance during this time, please do not hesitate to contact your specialist’s clinical administration assistant – we are here to help.
