Leg, Arm and Hand Pain

Volar Plate Injuries

About This Condition

The volar plate is a strong ligamentous structure on the underside of the finger where the proximal and middle phalanx bone meet (the IPI joint). A stretching or tearing injury to the volar plate can allow the finger to hyperextend causing immediate pain in the joint, swelling and loss of motion.
