Brain Conditions
Congenital Hydrocephalus
About This Condition
Hydrocephalus is an abnormal build-up of cerebrospinal flush (CSF) in the ventricles deep within the brain. This excess CSF cause the ventricles to widen which puts pressure on the brain's tissues, squashing them. Congenital hydrocephalus is present at birth and is characterised by an enlarged head due to swelling. It can cause brain damage as well as mental and physical problems.
