Back and Neck Pain

Spondylolisthesis

About This Condition

Spondylolisthesis occurs when a lumbar vertebra slips out of place, sliding forward and distorting the shape of the spine. This movement may compress the nerves in the spinal canal as well as the nerves that exit the foramen (open spaces on the sides of the vertebrae) and cause pain. It can occur anywhere on the spine but is most common in the lumbar spine.
