Preparing for Surgery or Procedure

Once you see your surgeon, they will be able to provide you with further information about your diagnosis, treatment alternatives and the course of care, especially expectations for surgical outcomes.  Due to the complex nature of the admission process, Briz Brain & Spine will coordinate and arrange all of your admission details.

Once your admission has been arranged you will be notified of the details in writing. Prior to your admission to hospital you will be contacted to verbally confirm all of your admission details.

You will be required to fast (NIL BY MOUTH – including water) for 6 hours prior to surgery.

If you are on aspirin or blood thinning medication, such as Disprin, Plavix and Asasantin, you will need to cease this medication 7 – 14 days prior to your admission.  Anti-inflammatories such as Nurofen, Celebrex, fish oil or krill oil will need to be ceased 5 – 7 days prior to surgery.  Please speak with your treating doctor’s assistant to confirm your current medications (prescription and over-the-counter) as soon as possible before to your admission.

You will need to bring ALL previous and current x-rays and scans with you to the hospital.

Should you require any information or additional assistance throughout this time please do not hesitate to contact our office on 073833 2500 and ask to speak directly to your treating doctor’s assistant.
