COGNO Success
The 14th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Cooperative Trials Group for Neuro-Oncology (COGNO) was recently held in Brisbane, attracting over 120 delegates and featuring a number of acclaimed international and local speakers. With the theme of “Reconnecting Neuro-Oncology”, the meeting enabled COGNO members to reconnect face-to-face for the first time since the start of the pandemic.
COGNO is a group of health professionals and researchers involved in brain tumour research and conducting clinical trials. Its mission is to achieve better health outcomes for patients and those affected by brain tumours through clinical trials research. The Annual Scientific Meeting is a key event for the group as it allows members to share ideas, celebrate the achievements of colleagues, hear about the latest research and make new connections.
This year’s meeting was co-convened by Briz Brain & Spine Neurosurgeon, Dr Hamish Alexander, and Assoc. Prof. Ben Chua, a Radiation Oncologist with GenesisCare. The program covered a wide range of neuro-oncology topics such as novel therapies, supportive care, brain and spine cancer as well as updates on the current clinical trials being run by COGNO. A number of awards were also presented to several researchers for their outstanding research projects and contributions to brain tumour research.
Dr Alexander said that the meeting was a huge success and it was a privilege to bring together so many researchers and clinicians dedicated to brain tumour treatment and improving outcomes for patients. For further information about COGNO and future plans, visit www.cogno.org.au.
